Dear Church,
Lamentations 3:22-23 says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
God’s mercies are new every morning. Each day comes with fresh mercies tailored to meet that day’s challenges. Today’s mercies are for today’s struggles, and tomorrow’s mercies will be for tomorrow’s needs. We don’t need to live on yesterday’s blessings, just as God provided fresh provision for His people in the wilderness.
Consider how the Lord provided manna and quail for the Israelites. Numbers 11:31 tells us that quail came in abundance, piled three feet deep in every direction. In the morning, the Israelites found dew on the ground, and when the dew disappeared, there was manna — wafers that tasted like crackers with honey. God’s instructions were simple: Gather only what you need for the day. Those who tried to hoard manna, as though preparing for a snowstorm at Market Basket, found themselves with a worm-infested, rotting mess. This was a clear reminder that God provides daily, and we can trust Him to meet our needs one day at a time.
Some of us, however, carry deep concerns about the tomorrow’s of life. Will my health hold up? Will I die of a terminal illness? Will I have enough to retire? Will I end up in a nursing home or waste away in a hospital? Will my children walk faithfully with God? The list is endless. But Jesus reminds us to pray for “our daily bread,” not a Costco supply to last a month. God provides for us in the moment and according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Why? Because His steadfast love never ceases, and His mercies never end.
Imagine waves of mercy rolling endlessly from heaven. James 4:6 says, “He gives us more grace,” and John 1:16 reminds us of “grace upon grace.” Sometimes, His blessings may come disguised as challenges, but they are always sufficient, always timely, and always wrapped in His love.
Be encouraged,
Mathews
