Dear Church,

Our hero, Moses, the mighty man of faith, had another story before he became the person whom ‘God knew face to face.’ When God spoke to him through a burning bush, Moses didn’t want any part of it.  First, he didn’t want to tangle with the most powerful man in the world, Pharaoh.  Second, he didn’t think the people of Israel would follow him.  Third, he didn’t think he was qualified because of certain physical disabilities.  Now, was he unqualified?  The answer is yes; from a human point of view, he was.  If you and I were picking candidates to lead people out of Egypt, Moses would not have made the list.  Yet, God picked Moses.  God’s reply to Moses’ litany of excuses can be summed up in five words: “I will be with you.”  That was the bottom line; nothing else mattered!

We all have handicaps of one sort or another. We all have had traumas and let-downs in life.  We all have doubts and insecurities.  All of us are clay pots into which God has poured His presence and His power but when it comes to faith, His power, our weakness.  This world is in deep need of men and women to serve God.  Every one of us is called according to God’s purposes. There is a little ‘Moses at the burning bush’ in each of us. We stall and make excuses.  We want to wait.  At some point, “waiting by faith” becomes “stalling by faith.”  The latter is not the result of genuine faith – it is the result of fear and self-doubt.

We are all called to seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness (Matt 6:33).  We are called to ‘Go’ and proclaim the good news (Mark 16:15).  May our Lord give us the grace to say, “Here am I, Lord!  Send me!”

Be Encouraged,
Mathews
