Dear Church,

The writer of Hebrews emphasizes, “without faith, it is impossible to please God.”  Faith involves moving forward despite our fears. When we take steps in faith, we demonstrate to God that we are gradually letting go of our fears and placing our trust in Him.  Moving forward in faith may involve encountering roadblocks and detours, but it’s essential to recognize that these challenges do not equate to failure. True failure lies in being unwilling to respond to God’s call to walk in faith.

Faith is a divine gift from God, possessing an enduring quality that ensures perseverance. The biblical command to have faith in God is not a matter of personal choice, just as the command to love God doesn’t make love a mere choice.  We cannot force ourselves to love God or anyone else through a simple decision.  Likewise, attempting to have faith in God by sheer willpower is futile.  Both love and faith are direct responses to what God ignites within us.  When the Holy Spirit enables us to comprehend the Word of God and the person and work of Jesus Christ, our response is faith.  Our choices then become the outcome of the faith bestowed upon us by God.  God generously provides everything necessary for us to live godly lives (2 Peter 1:3-4), and it is our responsibility to exercise this gift.

Faith requires action.  It involves taking risks and working diligently.  As a church and as individuals, are we actively exercising the gift of faith?

Be Encouraged,
Mathews
